Jax and Tara - Sons of Anarchy Season 5: The New Crowned King and Queen of the Club (FX)
As is his habit, Kurt Sutter (@sutterink/ sutterink.com) has been letting his fans in on the process of creating his show. He tends not to self-censor and sometimes takes a while to get to the point but Sutter usually does a good job of making his points. In this video number #6 for season 5 of Sons Of Anarchy, he reaffirms how pleasant his dealings with FX have been and continue to be. That they never send him bossy notes, just notes sort of seeking clarification. Sutter also reiterates that Tara will have a good story as the Queen and he’s talking to our lady Ms. Maggie Siff right now. I suppose for this season anyway, that “Gemma Teller-Morrow”, who is of course flawlessly executed by Katey Sagal, will be the ‘Queen Mother.’

‘Now, back to the show.
So I just turned in the first draft of the season five premiere of Sons of Anarchy, entitled, Sovereign. The studio and network cancelled the notes call because they had none. That’s a message that’s music to a showrunner’s ears. No notes, is good notes. I will say that both Fox 21 and FX are very respectful of my process and have placed a lot of trust in my ability to deliver this show. Most of my notes are really questions. Not so much, “Don’t do that!” but “Why are you doing that?” It’s about making sure we’re all on the same page…So now I’m about six weeks into the season and I’m finally finding the groove. We’ve broken the first four episodes. Drafts of 503 and 504 are being written and I begin my draft of 502 today. It’s like the workload almost has to reach a certain pace for me to recognize my position…MORE/SOURCE:

SONS OF ANARCHY Season 5 Casting NEWS Jimmy Smits Joins #sonsofanarchy:
‘Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue) is joining the upcoming fifth season Sons Of Anarchy on FX for a ‘major, season-long arc’.
Smits will play Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gang-banger with an exit strategy who becomes a dangerous mentor for Jax (Charlie Hunnam).

Smits has played bad guys before, most notably the scheming ADA Miguel Prado in another season-long arc on Showtime’s Dexter, but this marks a rare departure from Smits’ trademark shirt-and-suit look associated with most of his characters
’Nero’ is envisioned as being heavily tattooed and definitely won’t be wearing a suit. He also is expected to be as dark and possibly even darker than Prado, a role that earned Smits an Emmy nomination. In addition to NYPD Blue and Dexter, Smits’ series credits also include LA Law, for which he won an Emmy, The West Wing and Outlaw… SOA has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season, with a seventh cycle considered a given after series creator Kurt Sutter was recently signed to a three-year deal.‘

Good video. A bit over-explain-y about “Tara’s place in season 5 SOA,” though I think people keep asking Sutter this question especially considering the note that season 4 ended on and that he’d had Tara lose her marbles during the course of season 4. Will she get them back all the way–and keep them –or will she crack? is what Sutter says is what is on the draw board for Miss Siff.
I vote for strong and steely Tara. No more self-mutilation! More badassery (when called for). Not a “mama bear”-Gemma clone.
