TWD season 3 part 2 Episode 309 ‘Merle” (Michael Rooker)

This is a really interesting shot of Merle, who rarely looks afraid–but he does here. Why? SPOILER Because that is none other than Maggie, the paramour of Glenn who Merle nearly beat to death then set a walker upon while Glenn was bound to a chair. She’s got to want to kill him and  she has the means to do so. Unfortunately, as you can glimpse here on the far right, Merle’s brother Daryl is on the scene as well, which will make this encounter awkward to say the least. The next photo shows this encounter from another angle and it tells us even more:

TWD season 3 part 2 Episode 309 ‘Merle” (Michael Rooker), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Rick ( Andrew Lincoln).

From this angle we can see that Maggie’s got some kind of handgun–which means unless she’s out of ammo, she could take ol’ Merle’s head off sort of like the walker whose head Merle just bashed in.

TWD season 3 part 2 Episode 309 ‘Merle” (Michael Rooker), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln).

Finally, based on the background in this shot, they have not traveled far since the prior two photos. The look on Maggie’s face says huh? or WTF?!?

It seems Rick is still leading them at this point. Since Merle is out of the frame but Rick has got his sights (but not his rifle) fixed on something/someone, I’m guessing he has chosen not to kill Merle on the spot but rather bring him back to the prison. Why would he do that? It could be argued that Merle was acting under the Governor’s orders and had no choice but to do as he did (certainly Merle would argue that). Merle possibly could be tamed enough to be a group member and there’s no doubt he’d be an asset as a fighter. Perhaps Rick is considering whether Daryl could reign his brother in. It seemed Rick was willing to give Merle a second chance in season one–might he still harbor feelings of forgiveness, if only for Daryl’s sake?  Tough choices to make, for sure.

Tune on Sunday, February 10 on AMC at 9/8c to learn just what the heck is going down here!

THE WALKING DEAD –  Synopsis Season 2 Mid-Season Finale Episode 2.07 ‘Pretty Much Dead Already’:

Hershel sets a deadline. All secrets are out in the open. Glenn stands up for himself and Shane takes charge.

trans THE WALKING DEAD Sneak Peek #3 Update! NEW Screencaps Finale Episode 2.07 Recap & BTS VIDEO 2.06 #thewalkingdead

Given that the massive spoiler about ‘Sophia‘ has already been revealed what  other  mid season going’s on can we anticipate?

The sneak peek shows the barn going up in flames–anyone have any guesses as to who caused that?

It’s been the policy on Hershel’s farm to not use guns so burning the barn walkers would be an effective means of destroying them but it looks more to me that the fire was started with the intention of driving the walkers out of the barn so they can be dispatched with using bullets as they flee. This tho’ would seem to run contrary to what Hershel and Maggie have emphatically insisted–that those are people in the barn–their people and they have no intention of harming them.

It seems that Shane is upping his call to dispatch with the walkers in the previews/sneak peeks. Certainly, he would be among the least sentimental of the bunch. Of course it’s a whole lot easier when you didn’t know anyone in the barn while they were still human.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the showrunners handled ***MASSIVE SPOILER*** the entire scene. The last walker out of the barn is a very special case for Rick and Co. Finally, Sophia has been found, horrifyingly too late. Now all the whining that certain audience members have done about this ‘horribly prolonged’ five-day search for a missing group member will pay off. But the point is completely missed if you didn’t see using Sophia as an excuse to bring forward a much larger truth as well as giving the narrative time to include fleshing out characters and their budding, and in some cases fraying, relationships.

I’m pretty horrified about Sophia but yes, I saw it coming. It dovetails straight into the the absolutely relentless awfulness of ‘living’ in a zombie apocalypse that The Walking Dead comic books illustrate so deftly. I like that the show was able to put together a scene that though not specific to the exact fate of comic book Sophia, still renders the sheer horror that the comic books induce onto the TV screen. Or at least, I hope it will.

The Walking Dead Season 2 "Carl & Rick Grimes"

Though the new set promotional photos don’t reveal any new spoilers they do reinforce what has already been disclosed, namely that in the beginning of The Walking Dead season 2 the survivors pick up right where they left off after escaping from the doomed CDC center. The group has decided to bail on Atlanta but like almost every decision they make–or will make–it is more complicated than they anticipate. Here, they are gridlocked on an impassable stretch of highway just outside of Atlanta, the Winnebago may have taken it’s last breath and—oh hell, it’s a herd of walkers headed straight for our heroes! What to do? Some of these photographs suggest what transpires.

Q: Everybody asks why zombies are so popular, and I imagine you are asked all the time. What do you love about the whole “zombie concept” and why is it taking off the way it is?
Robert Kirkman:
Well I mean, I think it’s important to note that with something like vampires and werewolves, they have a personality and they are characters in and of themselves, and so a lot of times the stories that deal with those kinds of monsters are actually, well, those monsters are the main characters and the story is pretty much completely about them. The thing that appeals to me about zombies is that you can’t ever really make the story just about them. Zombie stories are always about the human characters and how they survive the zombies and how they react to the things that the zombies are doing, and how they survive in a world overrun by zombies, so it kinda forces you to tell a story about humanity and survival and human characters and human drama, and that’s the reason that it appeals to me.Q: Zombies have been done by lots of folks ever since George Romero brought the general concept of zombies that we all know and love today to fruition. But you have really taken it to the next level in terms of popularity and really injecting zombies into pop culture to a level that really hasn’t happened before. Why do you think that is… what ‘s different here?
Robert Kirkman: Well, I don’t know… we’re really paying tribute to Romero in our own way, and everything definitely does come from him and those first three movies. Those movies definitely focused on the human characters, but I think taking a more long term approach to it is really the main difference. The idea behind The Walking Dead is that we are going to see these characters grow and evolve over time. You know, Rick… if you’re reading the comic book series Rick starts out as the guy as he is in the television show now, but as that series progresses we’re dealing with a very different Rick Grimes currently in the Walking Dead series because this world has affected him and changed his outlook on things, and changed the way he behaves, and radically altered him as a character. I think that’s the appeal of the walking dead is knowing that after 90 minutes the credits aren’t going to roll and you’ll never see these characters again. We’re going to be with these characters for years and years.

The show seems to be doing well, we’re hoping to get a season three pick-up and you’re going to see these characters evolve. Even just getting 13 episodes of the second season, there has never been a zombie movie that has dealt with the characters for that long amount of time. I think it’s really cool.Source:Full interview @ Best-Horror-Movies.com

AUSIELLO The Walking Dead SCOOP (10.5.11):

Q: Do you have any scoop on The Walking Dead?
Ausiello: I don’t consider myself to be particularly squeamish, but there’s a scene in the Oct. 16 premiere that even I couldn’t (ahem) stomach. If you can manage to keep your eyes open the entire time, you’re made of stronger stuff than me. (First two episodes are aces, BTW. You will not be disappointed. The performances, particularly from Andrew Lincoln, Laurie Holden and Sarah Wayne Callies, will blow you away.)

Q: Do you have any Walking Dead scoop?
Ausiello: Exec producer Robert Kirkman confirms that “there will be a little bit of romance” between Steve Yuen’s Glenn and Lauren Cohan’s newcomer Maggie this season. And turns out, Glenn’s got some serious game. “He’s a good kisser,” confides Kirkman with a chuckle. “You’d think he might be awkward, [but he's] very smooth. Shockingly smooth.”
