Diana Rigg and daughter Rachael Stirling to star in Doctor Who – DW Comic Con Details #doctorwho

The Avengers’ ‘Emma Peel’ (Dame Diana Rigg) will be featured in Doctor Who Series 7 with her daughter, Rachael Stirling.

Mother and daughter Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling are to star side by side in a Doctor Who series 7 episode that will be airing next year. According to BBC, Rigg, known as Emma Peel to “Avengers” fans, and her daughter Rachael Stirling will star side-by-side in an episode of “Doctor Who” set to air in 2013. This will be the first time the two have worked together on screen.

Dame Diana Rigg will be featured alongside her daughter Rachael Stirling in a custom-written episode of Doctor Who to be aired in 2013.

The actresses will play “a mother and daughter with a dark secret” alongside Matt Smith, as the Doctor, and new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Filming began this week at Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff.

Dame Diana Rigg, who played Emma Peel in The Avengers in the 1960s, will play “a Yorkshire local”.

She said: “The first time Rachie and I will be working together is on an episode of Doctor Who specially written for us by Mark Gatiss. How lucky is that?”

For her part, Stirling says she is “looking forward to the madness of Doctor Who enormously”.

“Mark Gatiss has written a gift of a script and an on-screen relationship between Ma and I that is truly delicious.

“We have never before worked together because the offers have not been tempting, but when such a funny and original script comes through you know the time has come.” - Rachael Stirling

Rachael Stirling will be featured alongside her mother Dame Diana Rigg in a custom-written episode of Doctor Who to be aired in 2013.

Doctor Who’s executive producer, Steven Moffat said: “Dame Diana Rigg, Rachael Stirling and a Mark Gatiss script – a combination of talents you could only get in Doctor Who! Frankly, I’m terrified already!”

2013 will be the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in November 1963.

I watched the Avengers with my dad when I was just a little kid. I have no recollection of  doing the same with Doctor Who though now I’m going into my seventh season doing so. This is such a lovely bit of news and I’m so looking forward to seeing both Dame Diana Rigg and her daughter, Rachael Stirling in an episode in which, from the sound of things, they will be heavily featured. By the way, do you see the strong resemblance between mother and daughter, especially their beautiful eyes? ‘Next year’ seems a long way off but you know what they say about “good things coming to those who wait.” Good things are coming, indeed!

Update: The cult comics, TV, games and movies convention will be visited by stars Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan and producers Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner for a panel discussion with fans on Sunday, July 15. New footage from the show’s upcoming series – the last to feature Gillan and Darvill – will also premiere at the event.

Doctor Who Matt Smith Christmas Special Set PHOTOS *SPOILER* #doctorwho #christmasspecial2011

Matt Smith as Doctor Who filming the Christmas Special:

As previously noted, Matt Smith is back in action as Doctor Who–starring in the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special.

These are cool and not of the quality of set photos taken on the sly. I assume street scene + long lens in good hands = Good shots?

Also  there are some scenes being shot  in which the throngs gathered appear to get quite close to the action.

The detail on Matt Smith’s costume is pretty awesome as is the light effect within his helmet. It makes no sense of course, for there to be a bright light _inside_ a guy’s helmet–unless said ‘guy’ is Doctor Who (or anyone else being filmed)!
