Doctor Who’s executive producer Steven Moffat announced at the Press Screening of The Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe” today that the Amy (Karen Gillan) & Rory Pond (Arthur Darvill) will leave in Season 7 and that a new companion will join the Doctor on his travels. Amy and Rory will be in quite a few of the episodes it seems, but their departure will be “heartbreaking”.
As yet no-one has been cast as the new companion.

Just moments ago at the press screening of “The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe”, Steven Moffat revealed that Amy and Rory will be leaving Doctor Who next series, with casting for a new companion to take place soon.
BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba tweeted from the screening:
“Amy and Rory will leave ‘heartbreakingly’ during next series and The Doctor will get a new companion.”
“Steven Moffat says plenty of Amy and Rory in next series, but they will leave ‘heartbreakingly’. New companion not yet cast”

River Song to return to Doctor Who - Moffat speaks about River in Series 7:
It was reported earlier today that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are to leave Doctor Who next year. The news was announced at the press screening of this year’s Christmas Special, but Steven Moffat wasn’t done with the announcements.
According to the BBC’s official twitter feed, he revealed that River Song, played by Alex Kingston, will return for the 7th series. The tweet is as follows:
“And finally for tonight, Steven Moffat comments that he thinks River Song WILL return to Doctor Who”
