Elizabeth Mitchell talks about V, Lost, Buffy and her crush on Jabba the Hut with TV Guide Magazine
Actress Elizabeth Mitchell is funny, engaging, eloquent and beautiful IRL, as well as super-talented onscreen. I just wish she’d get some television work that was at least on-par with what she had as ‘Juliet’ on LOST. One comment Elizabeth made here, though she kept the tone ‘light,’ betrayed her annoyance in with “V” showrunners in the season 2 debut. After first seeing it in the run up to the s2 debut, I re-watched the scene because it was so incongruous.
In essence, due to the heavy use of CGI technology on “V,” the actors must pretend that they are seeing something that will be CGI-ed in later. In the opening scene of season 2, the sequence has Erica outside lying on the ground, unconscious, waking to find others much like her all around. True to her “Michael and Walt” -type relationship with her son, ‘Tyler’, she begins yelling for him as he is nowhere in sight. She eventually comes upon him in a disoriented state. ‘Red Rain’ starts coming down and Tyler blurts that ‘she’– Erica caused it. Then his face begins to have nasty burns that get worse and worse. That’s as far as Mitchell was told to act in the sequence–react to his facial ‘burns’. What the CGI people did instead was to continue burning through his flesh until his eyeball popped out ala a horror flick and his face melted off. Mitchell’s ‘Erica Evans’ character seemed truly underwhelmed with this turn of events and now we know why. The producers of “V” are literally not on the same page with their actors.
In other words, the makers of “V” made their star actress look like a crappy actress when with just a little more communication, the scene could have been horrifying instead of laughable.
