Though the U.K. got a jump on the official release of ‘Doctor Who Series 5‘, a brand-new CD-set that includes composer Murray Gold‘s brand new Doctor Who Theme, Doctor Who enthusiasts in the United States can now obtain their copies as of today, January 8, 2011!
I’ve truly enjoyed Murray Gold’s unique contemporary music style throughout whilst watching the Five Doctor Who Series. The best soundtracks add aural layers, enhancing the story unspooling before you–and Gold’s work is no exception. To appreciate a soundtrack though, I believe you need to be ‘aware’ of it and since the Doctor Who program is so compelling and action-packed at times, one can ‘forget’ to remember to give the background music a good listen. The solution to that obviously is to secure yourself a copy of Doctor Who, Series 5. It’s available in a number of locations and I’ve provided links to a few in this post.
This set contains 63 tracks so it is quite a task to pick a favourite. I have several that I particularly enjoy but I’m sure upon further listening I’ll be able to cite quite a few more.
Meanwhile, I’ve picked a few unofficial YouTube videos that offer you a sample of several of the tracks however, being fan-made, they are not of the audio quality you’ll find on the CD-set or through download.
The double CD-set features music from all 13 episodes of Series 5 and includes the new arrangement of the classic Doctor Who theme as well as a number of new themes for the Doctor and his ginger-haired assistant, Amy Pond.
Doctor Who Proms 2010 – ‘I am The Doctor’ a/k/a Doctor Who XI
I simply love the new arrangement of the Doctor Who theme, properly known as ‘Doctor Who XI.’
I know I sound like a total fan-girl but it gives me shivers.

Following on from the success of Doctor Who – Series 4 – The Specials (UK Top 50 Chart album entry and UK Chart No. 1 Soundtrack Album) comes a further 63 track, 2CD set of striking Murray Gold music.
Steven Moffat’s new vision of Doctor Who, with Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor, is perfectly matched by Murray Gold’s score. Completing music for over 50 episodes in a prolific five years, Murray Gold has proven to be the contemporary composer of choice for Doctor Who.
The double album features music from all 13 episodes of Series 5 and includes the new arrangement of the classic Doctor Who theme as well as a number of new themes for the Doctor and his assistant, Amy Pond. (Release notes)
