Jane Espenson, who wrote the Battlestar Galactica telefilm The Plan, definitely “sells” it more in the IGN video (below) than Tricia Helfer (Six) who states that “The Plan” is going to be a fun little thing where some holes are filled…”
Given everything we know, I think it’s reasonable to go with both their interpretations. Jane, a BSG series lead writer, describes The Plan as a chance to view the Cylon perspective right after the invasion on Caprica–to see the invasion thorough a new lens, as it were. I’m thinking it was filmed much like a couple of episodes of the Battlestar Galactica series would have been and that for die-hard fans such as me it will be a treat versus a full-course meal. Non-Battlestar Galactica fans may definitely take a pass on it since you have to be invested in the show to care what the Cylons were doing at that point in BSG-verse history.
Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica: The Plan was previously set to broadcast in November 2009. Word has come down however that the date has been pushed back to sometime in 2010.
The Plan chronicles the first 281 days of the Battlestar Galactica series through the eyes of the Cylons. Director Edward James Olmos (who also stars as Commander William Adama) has said the film will pull together so many strings that you’ll be compelled to watch the entire series again.
