Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) Matt Smith (The Doctor)
Update June 30, 2010 : Matt Smith to go the way of Christopher Eccleston?
According to SciFiWire, bookies in the U.K., possibly still in the throes of World Cup fever, are claiming that series 5 of Doctor Who had “less-than-stellar ratings for the finale of (Matt) Smith’s first season.” U.K. gambling company William Hill has therefore lowered the odds on a bet that Smith is out from 6/1 to 9/2, indicating its opinion that a replacement has suddenly become more likely.
According to racingdiary, here are the odds for the company’s Who-related bets:
4/1 David Morrissey
5/1 Chiwetel Ejiofor
8/1 Next Doctor To Be Female
10/1 Patterson Joseph
12/1 James Nesbitt
14/1 Robert Carlyle
14/1 David Walliams
14/1 Richard Coyle
14/1 Tom Ellis
20/1 John Simm
20/1 Rhys Ifans
20/1 Anthony Head
20/1 Julian Walsh
20/1 Jason Statham
25/1 James Corden
25/1 Alan Davies
33/1 Nigel Harman
33/1 Bill Nighy
33/1 Chris Martin
50/1 Steven Fry
50/1 John Barrowman
66/1 Christopher Eccleston

Anything can happen, right? I had no problem with Matt Smith as The Doctor and like everyone else ( it seems) I really like Karen Gillan as his companion. Has the beeb always been so judgmentally American about their television programming? I thought we here in the U.S. were fickle. Perhaps this is just a bunch of hooey.

There’s a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down, as the time-travelling drama continues.
To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.
The Doctor is played by Matt Smith, Amy Pond by Karen Gillan and Craig Owens by James Corden. This episode is written by Gareth Roberts. (Previously titled “Don’t Go Up The Stairs”)
