Sons of Anarchy on FX- Behind The Scenes – The Mayans

Go behind the scenes of FX’s Original Series, Sons of Anarchy. All New Season Tuesday, September 7 at 10PM ET/PT only on FX.

After catching up on these Boardwalk Empire clips, I’m pretty intrigued.

The shows aims to portray a period in American history, beginning in January 1920, which was Prohibition with the realities of how people “coped” with alcohol being outlawed. Guys like Al Capone and “Lucky” Luciano were not much more than kids then, albeit criminal kids and they had their hands in the Prohibition till from the get-go. Actor Steve Buscemi, whose intonations were the reason I actually looked up and watched the first Boardwalk Empire commercial a couple of months ago, plays the crooked mayor of Atlantic City who, with the advent of Prohibition and the intensity of the criminal element surrounding it, struggles to find his place in transitioning from merely a crook to a full-blown gangster.

If you want to know more watch the videos. They are really well-done. The book sounds good, too.

Sons of Anarchy on FX- Season Preview

Here’s an update on the promotion of Sons Of Anarchy.

Right now I don’t watch anything on FX but during the airing of  the Burn Notice season finale my spouse saw the first Sons of Anarchy promo–which this is not. I’d already seen it online. It’s black and white and very artsy. It shows none of the characters interacting, no sneak peeks…it’s just, to be honest it looks like a fanwank. A very good fanwank but a fanwank just the same not an enticing grab for you to snap to attention so fast that your neck sort of cracks.

NOW. This Promo is hot—so much hotter than the first and much more reflective of the tone of the show. I hope many people see it and don’t write off SOA due to the fancy-pants-looking first promo.

All I can say is if you never seen the show, either view an actual episode (vs. sneak peek) now in some format (DVD, download) or buckle yourself in and watch the “All New Season Tuesday, September 7 at 10PM ET/PT only on FX.”

It looks completely derivative* but I totally want to see this. Is that so wrong?
*Aren’t all zombie flicks since Romero derivative? Does that matter?
Why am I so conflicted?!

edit/ OK. The blurb about The Walking Dead confirms that it is on the American Movie Channel (AMC)–it’s just a TV show.

Side note: Are TV shows and films “based on the comic book series “X,” currently the predominant inspirations for our viewing pleasures ‘cos it sort of seems that way (not that this is such a bad thing)?

Finally, I enjoyed hundreds of comic books–both DC and Marvel as a kid.  Since they can inspire films and television shows how are they different than graphic novels? Is it just the format, not substance necessarily? I always got the impression that comic books were somehow a “lower form” of graphic novels, not that I felt one way or the other having not been of the generation that seemed to bring about a resurgence of the graphic novel.

Those of you who were lucky enough to attend Comic-Con have already born
witness to the expected awesomeness of this show, but for everyone
else, “The Walking Dead” is AMC’s latest creation, based on the comics
crafted by Robert Kirkman. “The Green Mile” and “Shawshank Redemption”
director Frank Darabont is sitting at the helm of this grisly, hour-long
series.

The trailer opens with a pair of ominous birds, and then the backstory
unfolds of how police officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln,
finds himself living among the dead. We won’t spoil the entire trailer
for you, but we will say this: the tension is rife within the four and a
half minutes AMC provides.

The first episode – which will be 90 minutes instead of 60, as are the

The update: Still almost nothing coming out from FX to whet our appetite for Sons of Anarchy. I however am not very interested in the candy-coated fare that passes for network TV so I have a small but relevant SOA tidbit then a few more screen caps from the FX season SOA trailer. Hey FX! I would love a fresh promo spot for SOA or even some new promo photos!

Q: I would love to know anything about Hal Holbrook as Gemma’s father on ‘Sons Of Anarchy.’ (8.17)

A: Holbrook pops up toward the end of the season premiere, and judging by those first scenes, his would appear to be an interesting, quiet, compelling and perhaps even sad role*. But I am told that Gemma’s father will for sure have some “more animated” moments – if only because, heck, he is Gemma’s father.

It appears that Jax’s spiral downward after Abel’s kidnapping understandably is going to be rather all-encompassing. This looks like an (attempted) intervention in the aftermath of what could only have been a horrific experience.
