Angelina Jolie is not only promoting her film, “The Changeling,”  A Clint Eastwood-directed film which she made over the period she got pregnant with the twins but she’s plunged back into charity travel and other good works.

Her next film may be Jolie’s last for a while, as the actress said last week that she plans to “fade away” from acting in the years ahead.

Angelina Jolie has confirmed reports that she will replace Tom Cruise in the upcoming espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt.

“I’m working on a film called Salt,” Jolie said when asked about her next project during an interview on BBC Radio. “It’s with [Bone Collector director] Phillip Noyce. And that’s it.”

Yesterday Angelina Jolie, 33, attended a press conference in London to speak about her Clint Eastwood-directed film, Changeling.

My mom….there was something about her,; Jolie said. Her name was Marcheline and everybody called her Marshmallow as a joke, because she was just the softest, most gentle woman in the world.

Bertrand passed away in January 2007, at age 56, after a battle with cancer. Jolie’s father is Midnight Cowboy actor Jon Voight, 70.

As the interview went on, Jolie began to choke up.

“Um…F*ck,” the Oscar winner cursed, attempting to hold back her tears. “[My mother] is very much… She is very much Christine Collins. She was really, really sweet, and, um, she would never get angry. She couldn’t swear to save her life. But when it came to her kids she was just really, really fierce.”

Jolie added that she related to her mother while playing Collins, and that her own mother “had that elegance and strength through just knowing what was right.”Jolie named one of her twins born in July—Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt—partially after her mother. Source

The Fox Network recently announced its midseason schedule, and in case you are trying to remember what it was– besides the Friday night FOX death knell for both Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, here it is:

Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated but much delayed and reworked “Dollhouse” is going to air on low-rated Fridays. The “meh” rated “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” is also moving to Friday and will serve as lead-in at 8 p.m. Eastern to “Dollhouse” at 9 p.m. beginning in January, 2009.

Until this moment I had no idea that there exist an online prescription eyeglasses store with a vast quantity of  Holiday frames.

It’s a cute idea and I immediately knew which are my favourites. I call them the “Santa Glasses” but they really are “a narrow size, fashion partial-rim frame with an open ended, partially floating lens.”

I just thought those would be awesome- especially when paired up with a Santa suit.

On a more  practical note -how about these?

These are a little different than the Santa glasses (above). They are more what I would go for in the colour of a frame for the holidays–something subtle.

Fitting that the image that the Terminator replicated was in was that of a B-movie actor. He got a spaghetti western shootout as a sendoff. Hope to see him again soon. Wish they had used “Cromartie” more.

I’ve had a look at them and some are quite bawdy.  So how ’bout I share one of those?

Ha! That first thing I thought of was Lucille Ball. Then I thought oh, flaccid penis. Ugh. Then back to Lucy and away from the thought of a flaccid penis that this person wants to see. I can’t quite help but think, Honey, it’s a good thing that you’ve never seen his penis flaccid isn’t it–because it could be inferred that your hubby is a pretty happy camper.

I’ve talked about this before so I won’t dwell on it. It is nice to know I’m not being paranoid–but I wish we lived a world where we’d stop doing that.

President-elect Obama talks on his cell phone…

WASHINGTON — Threats against a new president historically spike right after an election, but from Maine to Idaho law enforcement officials are seeing more against Barack Obama than ever before. The Secret Service would not comment or provide the number of cases they are investigating. But since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president’s security is so sensitive.

Earlier this week, the Secret Service looked into the case of a sign posted on a tree in Vay, Idaho, with Obama’s name and the offer of a “free public hanging.” In North Carolina, civil rights officials complained of threatening racist graffiti targeting Obama found in a tunnel near the North Carolina State University campus.

And in a Maine convenience store, an Associated Press reporter saw a sign inviting customers to join a betting pool on when Obama might fall victim to an assassin. The sign solicited $1 entries into “The Osama Obama Shotgun Pool,” saying the money would go to the person picking the date closest to when Obama was attacked. “Let’s hope we have a winner,” said the sign, since taken down.

In the security world, anything “new” can trigger hostility, said Joseph Funk, a former Secret Service agent-turned security consultant who oversaw a private protection detail for Obama before the Secret Service began guarding the candidate in early 2007.

Obama, of course, will be the country’s first black president, and Funk said that new element, not just race itself, is probably responsible for a spike in anti-Obama postings and activity. “Anytime you’re going to have something that’s new, you’re going to have increased chatter,” he said.

The Secret Service also has cautioned the public not to assume that any threats against Obama are due to racism…

There were two threatening cases with racial overtones:

_ In Denver, a group of men with guns and bulletproof vests made racist threats against Obama and sparked fears of an assassination plot during the Democratic National Convention in August.

_ Just before the election, two skinheads in Tennessee were charged with plotting to behead blacks across the country and assassinate Obama while wearing white top hats and tuxedos.

In both cases, authorities determined the men were not capable of carrying out their plots.

In Milwaukee, police officials found a poster of Obama with a bullet going toward his head _ discovered on a table in a police station.

Chatter among white supremacists on the Internet has increased throughout the campaign and since Election Day.

One of the most popular white supremacist Web sites got more than 2,000 new members the day after the election, compared with 91 new members on Election Day, according to an AP count. The site, stormfront.org, was temporarily off-line Nov. 5 because of the overwhelming amount of activity it received after Election Day. On Saturday, one Stormfront poster, identified as Dalderian Germanicus, of North Las Vegas, said, “I want the SOB laid out in a box to see how ‘messiahs’ come to rest. God has abandoned us, this country is doomed.”

It is not surprising that a black president would galvanize the white supremacist movement, said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, who studies the white supremacy movement.

“The overwhelming flavor of the white supremacist world is a mix of desperation, confusion and hoping that this will somehow turn into a good thing for them,” Potok said. He said hate groups have been on the rise in the past seven years because of a common concern about immigration.

Ever since it became clear to me that Barack Obama would probably run for president and especially since his historic speech: 2004 dnc -barack obama-speech, when many more people knew that they were listening to their future commander-in-chief, I’ve been worried about his safety.

I thought about American politics and the lengths some people go to in the name of it. I thought of people with tiny, little minds that belonged to groups of similar-non-thinking people and I flash on the Zapruder images of JFK getting his brains blown out or of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the ground or of Bobby Kennedy. RFK’s shooting is not on tape but his good friend who was by his side, ex-football star Rosie Greer–his devastating description as an eyewitness–that has stuck with me. Most recently there’s been the shooting Ronald Reagan and near-shooting (twice!) of Gerald Ford. Nuts with guns/men with agendas wanting to take out the president. I thought of Lincoln and and I hoped that Tecumseh’s Curse was indeed broken when Ronald Reagan survived his assassination attempt despite being elected in 1980 (year ending with zero).

I reminded myself that man has been killing man throughout the world for many lifetimes–not just the US.

Still when this hideous side of intolerance comes bubbling up I find it very disconcerting.

It was a shame that the other day Obama went to his barber of 14 years in his hometown area of Chicago and was quickly told “no way” by his protectors, the Secret Service. The big glass store front was too easy of a target.

I hope if there are powers that be that they watch over him and his loved ones and that crazy, evil people and the vast majority–simple, cowardly haters–would just stifle it and let the man do his job

Ken and Susie Catch Turtles: Episode 9

This was one of Survivor: Gabon’s strongest  episodes, despite the sort of lame golf Reward Challenge.

The team members have been whittled down to nine, and as expected, they were merged.
With the merge came individual challenges; this week was the build-a-fire challenge, among the most popular of individual challenges. I like it because each one of them should be able to start a fire–they’ve known this was coming from the moment they were accepted on the show. Yet how does one explain the utter incompetence of so many in this challenge, season after season?
The challenge was almost a wash, if it were not surprisingly for Susie and Sugar.  Susie took the lead early and Sugar came out straight behind.  None of the other members of the tribe even got their fire started, and many of them simply gave up(!)  In the end,  Susie nailed it, winning her first Individual Immunity and thus  saving herself when voting time came at Tribal Council.

Following up on his previous plotting Kenny again lied his way into another blindside at tribal–that’s three for three.  This time Charlie was his surprise victim.

The ramifications of last week’s throwing the second immunity idol into the sea cannot be minimized. Bob was sent to Exile this time but with the second Immunity Idol floating far, far away and despite Bob’s ability to follow the clues perfectly, there was no idol to be found. Undeterred, Bob put together what’s got to be the best fake Immunity Idol ever made in the show Survivor. May it serve him well.

John and Riley’s impromptu trip to Mexico results in deadly consequences. Meanwhile, Sarah and Ellison finally come face-to-face in the “Mr. Ferguson is Ill Today” episode of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.. “Sarah doesn’t have a plan but she has a gun. The Connor’s meet up with Cromartie in Mexico this time and apparently a massive gun battle ensues.” Riley and John abscond to Mexico with unfortunate consequences; Sarah encounters Ellison in a face-to-face meeting. “SPOILERS AHEAD: Tonight’s episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, aptly titled Mr. Ferguson is Ill Today, is a particularly unusual story.  The plot is fractured into multiple accounts of the same narrative from the perspective of each of the major characters, the location was unique and, above all, the story culminates in the death of a principle character, Cromartie.  (The episode’s title is actually the first line of dialog Cromartie spoke in the pilot!)  While the multi-perspective storyline provided interesting musical challenges, it was the episode’s Mexican location that gave me the most room to explore.

“Mr. Ferguson” allowed me a second opportunity to produce a song for Terminator, after the season premiere’s searing “Samson and Delilah” with Shirley Manson.  This time, I arranged a traditional Mexican folk tune called “La Llorona.”

“I first heard about this song a few days before I saw the episode.  I happened to be hanging out with the episode’s director Michael Nankin (whose skillful touch Battlestar fans will recognize from some of the best episodes of that series, including Maelstrom) and he told me that he was experimenting with the song in his cut.  So, even before the spotting session with the producers, I was already thinking about how I could take a traditional Mexican folk tune and Terminator-ize it.

When I saw the sequence in question a few days later, I knew the inspiration would come quickly.  The last act of “Mr. Ferguson” takes on the feeling of a Sergio Leone western.  Leone’s collaborations with Ennio Morricone have been a tremendous influence on me, in particular on my scores for the Rest Stop films.  So, I felt right at home musically, and simply had to find the right balance between traditional Mexican folk instumentation, the electric strings, metallic percussion, and of course, the vocalist.”… More here: Bear’s Battlestar Blog:
