The shows aims to portray a period in American history, beginning in January 1920, which was Prohibition with the realities of how people “coped” with alcohol being outlawed. Guys like Al Capone and “Lucky” Luciano were not much more than kids then, albeit criminal kids and they had their hands in the Prohibition till from the get-go. Actor Steve Buscemi, whose intonations were the reason I actually looked up and watched the first Boardwalk Empire commercial a couple of months ago, plays the crooked mayor of Atlantic City who with the advent of Prohibition and the intensity of the criminal element surrounding it, struggles to find his place in transitioning from merely a crook to a full-blown gangster.

Finally, I enjoyed hundreds of comic books–both DC and Marvel as a kid. Since they can inspire films and television shows how are they different than graphic novels? Is it just the format, not substance necessarily? I always got the impression that comic books were somehow a “lower form” of graphic novels, not that I felt one way or the other having not been of the generation that seemed to bring about a resurgence of the graphic novel.

Hey FX! I would love a fresh promo spot for SOA or even some new promo photos!
It appears that Jax’s spiral downward after Abel’s kidnapping understandably is going to be rather all-encompassing. This looks like an (attempted) intervention in the aftermath of what could only have been a horrific experience.

TheMacCala | July 30, 2010 From FX, a promo of season 3 Sons of Anarchy set to premiere September 7 Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) still finds his loyalties divided in the third season of this popular FX series — between the renegade motorcycle club founded by his violent parents and his hope of giving his [...]

I hadn’t given it a lot of thought but from the buzz I’d heard as the season was being put together (mostly via Kurt Sutter) along with casting news, I sort of thought the repercussions of Abel gone missing would reverberate through the characters involved (and by extension whomever they interacted with closely) but I didn’t get the impression that SOA S3 was to be “all about Abel.” Honestly, I still don’t. I think he’s more of , for lack of a better phrase, “plot device,” used for a hypothetical example, to push Jax further into becoming his own man by having to deal with a tragedy of such enormity.

It seems a bit premature to be talking about the newest Doctor Who’s departure date from the same-named show, but both UK bookies and now a British tabloid have done so. Is there any truth to the reports? Only time will tell. It wouldn’t break my heart if Matt Smith left to allegedly pursue Hollywood ambitions, though I have nothing against him playing The Doctor. The real loss, IMO, would be in losing Karen Gillan, The Doctor’s companion, “Amy Pond.” Though it seemed to take folks a while to warm to Smith, Ms. Gillan seemed well-liked–often compared favourably to another popular companion, “Donna Noble” played by Catherine Tate.

“Every major enemy of the Time Lord will make an appearance in the finale of this series of Doctor Who.In a terrifying two part programme – entitled The Pandorica Opens – the Doctor will be confronted by many of his old foes.

The Daleks, Cybermen, Silurians, Judoon, Sontarans, Sycorax, Weevils and Autons, will all feature in the final show.”

The first half of the two-part finale will run June 19 in the UK and July 3 here in the US.

Emerson is up directly against his good friend–and former Emmy winner, Terry O’Quinn. Will the two “cancel one another out”? Will last year’s win for Emerson stack the deck in favour of O’Quinn? Will O’Quinn’s former Emmy win in this category dissuade voters from voting for him, especially since his 2010 characterization of John Locke was as “FLocke” or “UnLocke” or “Fake Locke”–the real John Locke was dead– garroted in season 5 by Michael Emerson’s character. Finally will Emerson’s newness to television* in comparison to O’Quinn’s have any bearing?

It is 2010 and again I am not at Comic-Con though whenever my next trip to California is, it’s going to be well-planned and include at least a few visits to the King of Cons. I do consume a growing (though by 30 minute increments) chunk of Showtime’s offerings. There’s the crown jewel, Dexter and [...]

Losing baby Abel will definitely affect Jax and his relationship with Tara on Sons of Anarchy Season 3. Series creator Kurt Sutter says he wants to “explore what happens to a couple when they’re faced with a tragedy like that….To be honest with you, I don’t know where it’s going to go. Does Tara blame herself? Does Tara blame Jax? Does Jax blame Tara? But that will be a very real dynamic in their relationship.”

There’s a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down, as the time-travelling drama continues.

To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.

The Doctor is played by Matt Smith, Amy Pond by Karen Gillan and Craig Owens by James Corden. This episode is written by Gareth Roberts. (Previously titled “Don’t Go Up The Stairs”)

LOST,For the Charlie, Claire & Kate ‘shippers
I miss Locke, the Island Locke. The hunter, the man who reveled so much in his new-found ability to walk–until they sent him underground where the character suffered and the actor got restless.

I miss early, evil Ben. When we really did not know him one bit. Before they offed Ana-Lucia.

I miss the Island, the ocean. Yup I partially watched it for the scenery. There were a few episodes along the way that the the scenery redeemed.

Yesterday over a 12-hour period, I sorted through almost 1500 screen caps made by the popular LOST fansite, LOST-Media.com in order to post the entire sequence of Kate helping Claire give birth backstage at a Driveshaft concert. As you can see in the caps, both women remembered the first time Aaron had been born–in the jungle on the Island. Immediately after Aaron’s birth Charlie joined the women and began remembering, too. In the show, despite his battle with heroin addiction, Charlie pitched in right away to help Claire in the time immediately after Aaron’s birth and in fact right up until his death. He had befriended and comforted her prior to the birth too, leading some of us to hope they would become a couple.

Naveen Andrews segment is the one that did the most for me in that it was the most inspired.

‘Guest star’ Jeff Probst, the host of the the show that was the inspiration for LOST, the ten-years-running SURVIVOR, appears at the LOSTies camp to inform Sayid that “The tribe has spoken.” Sayid must leave the Island. In his parting words, Sayid rants that he “did not serve 5 years in the Republican Guard, get shot by Roger (Linus, Ben’s father) and drown “in a pond” (hee) to be eliminated by Jeff f-ing Probst.” Very funny.

I’ll admit I got a little teary with Matthew Fox. I thanked him for everything he taught me, including taking me on his trip to Japan to see Green Day that first summer of shooting. At the time, flying at the last minute to a foreign country was way out of my comfort zone, but then again nothing on “Lost” was ever in my comfort zone.
