A short history of the LOST-based real-life romance and some great pics of  Dom and Evie is here.

Thanks to Lyly

Evangeline and Dom ARE back together

Actress Evangeline Lilly who stars as “Kate Austen” on ABC TV’s LOST, spent the end of the year with actor Dominic Monaghan, her boyfriend of 5 years (with the exception of a few months in which they were estranged). Evie says she and Dom chose to go to Switzerland to finally have “a White Christmas.”

Prior to starring on LOST through Season 3, Dominic was best known as “Pippen,” a hobbit in the film trilogy, “Lord Of The Rings.”

The couple has been notoriously difficult to pin down as together–or not because they are both very publicity shy. It was rumoured that just months after their break-up over a year ago that they were headed toward being recoupled.

I just love the two of them together. There are some YouTube interview videos taken by a German interviewer (plus a French radio  commercial in which Evangeline speaks French Canadian. Totally cute) from a while ago and they honestly seemed like soulmates. I’m always glad to see true love prevail, aren’t you?

During the LOST break, Evangeline will be promoting her first big screen film, the drama, “Afterwards,” in which she co-stars with John Malkovitch. “Afterwards” is slated to premiere January, 2009.

Of course, Evangeline’s other Very Big Thing is the beginning of Season Five of  LOST.

Previously vocal in her opinion her character Kate, Lilly cautions that viewers should try to be patient with the first part of Season Five as it is “very complicated” <oh noes!>. She describes it as a puzzle in which fans will learn about characters bit by bit. Finally, Evangeline stated that in the second part of Season 5 there will be payoff for viewer’s patience. (Where have I heard this before?!)

Episode Title: The Lie

Air Date: 21st January 2009

Synopsis, Part 2/Episode 2

Hurley and Sayid are on the run from the cops after stumbling into trouble at the safehouse; the island survivors come under attack by unknown forces; and an old friend offers some shocking advice to Kate in order to ensure that “the lie” remain a secret.

Thanks to Spoiler TV for the scan–a scene from the Season premiere (not sure if it is in the first or second hour). The rest of the scan is below the jump, along with a LOST widget.

It’s great to see that thus far Rose and Bernard have survived Season 5.

Why do you think Rose looks so panic-stricken and that Bernard sort of looks like he does not know her?

Are they still stunned from the Island’s time shift?

To be nit-picky, I’d really like it if Sawyer (Josh Holloway) found a shirt ‘cos the actor has really slumpy shoulders and their slumpiness is much less obvious when he keeps his shirt on.

*REAL* SPOILER BELOW

And big spoiler today in re: the promos:

The guy in the hazmat suit who is menacing my beloved Dr. Dan is Desmond. Dan needs to stop with the time-shifting. Hasn’t he blown enough brain matter with all his (inferred) back and forths?

I still can’t believe that Jeremy Davies is a featured player! And I love that Jeff Fahey is guesting as our intrepid helicopter pilot. Remember: Not all the pilots have to die! We’ve got Desmond and Penny. Looks to be a great episode. :)

I will watch this show until the end…unless they kill him off…which would be a very. bad. idea. cos’ let’s face it–they need him!

Here’s a brand new Season 5 promo. Thanks to DarkUfO for the head’s up.

More later tonight (Sunday)

Thanks to The Watcher (Maureen Ryan)

This sneak peek shows Jack and Ben in a motel room. Jack is shaving off his huge beard and Ben is choosing some dress clothes. They discuss finding the Oceanic 6, who they’ll pursue first. The discussion turns to the now-dead Locke and Jack queries Ben about when Ben last saw him. Ben sort of tells a truth, I’m not sure if it’s actually the truth about last seeing Locke in the Orchid station.

Ben wants to know why Jack is such a strong “believer” now and Jack answers that it’s because of what  Locke said about the ones left behind–he specifically mentions Sawyer and Juliet and recounts how Locke told him (Jack) that everyone on the Island would die if the Oceanic 6 did not return to the Island.

Unless there were some hidden clues in this I didn’t see much or learn much (anything?) that has not been presented already.  Still, it’s very enjoyable to see scenes form the upcoming season even if they are not ( yet) mind-blowing.

While I was checking around for LOST updates I found at what is quickly becoming my favourite LOST spoiler site, Spoiler TV some new studio photos stills of the characters, a few of which I’ll show here. The Watcher (Maureen Ryan) is also responsible for me knowing where to look for these. It is much appreciated!

Said now to no longer being a full-time cast member. Too bad. I think they underutilized her, which has been one of the most frustrating aspects of LOST–pulling in good actors and letting them…do nothing much. Juliet’s role seemed to be going that way last season. Hopefully, she’ll “pop” a bit more in Season 5.

Lots more LOST posts

This scene was nicely done and these two worked well together in pretty much all their scenes, I think.

Would love it if before the series ends that Dom comes back one more time–maybe as the last “dead person” Hurley will ever see before he’s free of well, seeing ghosts. That would totally work for me if they could write it. It would have to be an extreme situation, on the island of course, and Dom somehow again shows what a great heart Charlie had. I miss the character though I still really enjoy Jorge Garcia’s “Hurley.”

When I’ve gotten fed up with this show he and a handful of other actors on the show keep me watching. Them and the scenery. :D

I’m officially moving what I put together for LOST, the ABC television show back here from the original blog of mine,  Cyn City.  I’m amping up coverage on a couple of shows that I favour as I wind down with a few others. You can always click the link to my sister blog, Cyn City to get a lot more previous LOST coverage or click and bookmark :) here: Cyn City. Then you can use the “Ligit” box in the left column at Cyn City at to search by typing in “LOST” or search on this site as well here for LOST posts. :) Enjoy!

It should be fun season.

As I was mentioning to my spouse last night as we traipsed about in our snow and ice-covered neighborhood walking our pooch, the LOST media machine is releasing something new almost every day. Some of it is official–the majority of it comes from visitors and residents of Hawaii where filming on LOST continues post-Thanksgiving, as well as “insiders” whose identities remain cloaked in order to protect the “guilty.”

Today’s treat includes a link to one of the best sources for LOST images–including high-resolution– on  the Internet. They’ve given their site a great face lift and with the  run-up to LOST’s Jan 21 premiere have got the goods that I know you’ll want get a good look at: LOST-Media.com.

From the intrepid reporters at http://www.hawaiiweblog.com/2008/12/02/lost-in-dharma comes a first-hand account of some lucky Canadian visitors who happened by a LOST set and got very, very lucky as well as picked up some tidbits of info about the current filming of LOST in Hawaii, this time a scene between Kate and Hurley, a very clean-looking VW van and our LOSTIES wearing Dharma jumpsuits (!?)Van

“SPOILER ALERT! The “LOST” filming tip line had been silent for some time, and in years past the Thanksgiving holiday marked the start of a six-week hiatus for local production. I was beginning to think we’d seen the last of the location shoots of 2008.  But visiting fan Grant from Edmonton and his wife were able to catch them hard at work yesterday at Camp Erdman — otherwise known as Othersville — on the North Shore.

Lucky fan on set 2009 Season 5

Lucky fan on set 2009 Season 5

Polite and discreet Canadians that they were, they just quietly watched from afar as the cast and crew broke for lunch. But their good nature must’ve been evident, as Evangeline Lilly — a Canadian herself — spotted them and walked over to talk to them.

They weren’t able to get close to the set, but the close encounter with the cast definitely made their day. Grant did, however, take note of a few curious facts during his visit:

  • There were six main characters present. In addition to Kate, they saw Jack (Matthew Fox), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim). Those last two names are particularly interesting to see.
  • Sayid appeared to be wearing civilian clothes. Kate appeared to be wearing a dark blue jumpsuit. The rest — Jack, Hurley, Sawyer and Jin — were all wearing what appeared to be the DHARMA Intiative’s familiar tan jumpsuits.
  • There were also more than a dozen other actors, including a few children in DHARMA tan jumpsuits, skirts and shorts.
  • At least four new looking DHARMA Volkswagen vans, one Jeep, and a few blue bicycles scattered among the cabins.
  • The left edge of a banner that began with the word “NEW.”

We have Internet again. It is noticeably slower than what we had–but it is said to be much more reliable. By “slower” I mean a bit laggy. <eyeroll> Might be able to be tweaked and it may not be as big an issue with my notebook. I’ll find out later, fingers crossed.

Because I am again able to freely bop around the Internet, I found a headline from Kristin Dos Santos of E! about LOST most intriguing and so clicked through for a ABC promo for Lost, Season Five . Some of the scenes are new(!)and they answered a question or two about the immediate aftermath of the escape of the Oceanic Six and what happened to the rest of the Losties, The Freighter people (Dan especially seemed a concern–he’s in the promo), assorted Others, Ben’s people, et al.

A running comment that seems to be exciting some folks is that during the promo at about the time when Jack and Ben are at the funeral home talking, the words Dharma Initiative and the Dharma symbol flash by quickly.

Where have we seen those before? (A: Everywhere.)

Big Battlestar Galactica news which I will be updating, though I usually cover BSG here.

    From The Watcher

“UPDATE posted Oct. 17: The show’s finale will indeed air on March 20. Sci Fi’s Oct. 16 press release about the show’s final episodes is at the end of this item.

“Battlestar Galactica” finally returns with its last setof episodes 9 p.m. Central Time Jan. 16, Michael Ausiello reports.

He calculates that the show’s series finale (which executive producer Ron Moore talked about here) would likely air March 20. I don’t even want to think about the show ending, but as long as we’re on the topic, it’s still a little unclear as to how things will play out with the show’s final group of episodes.

At this stage, based on earlier “Battlestar” dispatches, we know there will be 10 episodes that will be at least 11 hours long. But it’s not clear whether show’s final episodes may end up extending beyond the 11 hours that have been allotted thus far. No doubt Sci Fi Channel’s supercomputers are at work on this situation as we speak. (There will also be a “Battlestar” movie that will air after the series ends. OK, now click on that “supercomputer” link you just passed over. Seriously.)”

Sci Fi’s press release about the last set of “Battlestar” episodes is below.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA RETURNS ON SCI FI
JOURNEY’S END DRAWS NEAR FOR ACCLAIMED SERIES

Final Episodes to Begin January 16, 2009

New York, NY – October 16, 2008 – On Friday, January 16, 2009 at 10PM ET/PT, SCI FI’s critically acclaimed drama series Battlestar Galactica will return with the remaining episodes of its 4th and final season. The 10-week run will culminate with the series finale on March 20th.

Picking up from last June’s jarring cliffhanger – the Colonial fleet and their new Cylon allies led by Admiral Adama and the Galactica crew discover Earth to find it a barren nuclear wasteland – the finale season promises to be rife with drama, action and revelation.

Battlestar Galactica is the gripping saga of humanity’s last remnants and their struggle to find a new home while fleeing from their deadly Cylon enemies. Redefining the space opera with its gritty realism, Galactica’s intensity, issues-driven topicality, and command performances have garnered it numerous awards, including three Emmys and the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award.  The show was twice recognized by the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of the most outstanding programs of the year. The series is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, and the outstanding ensemble cast is led by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.

Did you watch “Fringe?”I did on the basis of Alias–which I liked for a few years and LOST, which I haven’t truly, fully enjoyed since sometime in S2 when that whole thing went down with the killing off of the “Libby” and “Ana Lucia” characters in cold blood by annoying “Michael” (”Walt!”), the usually great Harold Perrineau. So “Fringe” has been much-hyped. I don’t listen to ads much so I haven’t borne much suffering but I was aware of the show from discussion of it long ago. What did you think?I’ve seen some reviews–hadn’t read any before viewing the show except the hype from when it was green lighted (lit?) many months ago.

I was kind of meh about the prospect of watching but after seeing “Fringe,” I’m willing to watch it again. Some of it is sort of hard not to laugh at though. My 16 y.o. son likes the huge words suspended in the air instead of the more Alias-like font near the bottom of the screen which notes the setting of the scene. Me, not so much. The ginormous and weirdly placed letters take me out of the moment (in the show).  J.J. should know better.

Another idea that should have been deep-sixed was casting the female lead. She’s not engaging or compelling and she doesn’t have the acting range needed to play lead in this. Focus more one Dr. Bishop and Peter and eventually kill off Olivia is what I suggest. Or not kill Olivia but the actress needs to get through Acting 101 and 102 if she stays.

What’s coming next week~ 9/16/2008: The Same Old Story

Episode Detail: The Same Old Story - Fringe
The bizarre death of a woman who gave birth to a rapidly aging baby after an hours-long pregnancy challenges the nascent partnership between Dr. Bishop, Peter and Olivia, who reaches out to Massive Dynamic’s Nina Sharp for answers.

Fringe executive producer Roberto Orci (he of Transformers fame) gave me the official word on some of your burning questions about Tuesday’s premiere episode. His answers were at times enlightening, at times frustrating, and, frankly, mostly kind of weird, all apropos for a show that sprung from the odd, fertile mind of J.J. Abrams. — Mickey O’Connor
Why do they have a cow in the lab? I know they said something about similar DNA, but why not a monkey or rats like they usually have in a lab?

    Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv)

    Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv)

“The question is, who is the cow really working for?” Orci jokes. He echoes what Peter Bishop says in the script: A cow is an ethical test subject, and its blood was used to synthesize the concoctions that saved Agent Scott’s life. It probably doesn’t hurt that walking a cow through the hallowed halls of Harvard makes for better TV than, say, a cage of rats.

What did they use to make Mark Valley’s skin look so gross and translucent?
Like those long-suffering Sports Illustrated models who have their swimsuits painted on, Valley endured some time in the chair as the effects of his mystery illness were essentially (temporarily) tattooed on his skin. “We wanted to be able to see the actor breathing,” Orci says.

    Kirk Acevedo

    Kirk Acevedo

How often will Lance Reddick appear, and has his casting on Fringe changed his role on Lost at all?

Reddick is in every episode, says Orci, but will still have time to hop over to Hawaii to shoot his appearances on Lost. “We have a good relationship with those Lost people,” he deadpans, about Abrams’ other series. He goes on to say that Reddick’s casting on Fringe was done with full knowledge of his Lost obligations.

    Agent Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick)

    Agent Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick)

How did they film that scene with Blair Brown’s cool robot arm? Does it have any unusual features or abilities?
Brown wore a “green screen” sleeve; the arm’s Lucite casing and its intricate guts were rendered with CGI. Nevertheless, Orci assures me that there’s nothing more to the enigmatic Nina Sharp’s arm than a standard medical prosthesis.080910fringe_blairbrown.jpg

While we’re on the subject, Mark is a cast regular, despite his last scene ending with him on a gurney with a sheet drawn over his face. Is he dead, alive, or does it even matter?
Orci answers my question with a question. “Does [Agent Scott] live on merely in Olivia’s mind, solely as a memory, or something else?” While Nina Sharp’s final words — “Question him” — might indicate that Scott will be reanimated in some way, Orci says not so fast, Frankenstein. “She may have some technology to read his brain — while it’s still fresh.”

Is the Massive Dynamic headquartersIs the Massive Dynamic headquarters a real building? Both the interior and the exterior looked too CGI to me.

Here’s a tricky answer. In the early preview version of the pilot that I watched, MD’s HQ looked an awful lot like the spiky forms of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto (see photo here). Orci says that since production has moved to New York City, Massive Dynamic has been recast, and will be played by a young, up-and-coming actor named He did say that the building’s futuristic interior graphics and animation were their addition for the TV show. Hey, guess what? Massive Dynamic has a Web site! Let the conspiracy theories begin! What’s up with those symbols (leaf, frog, etc.) that appear before commercial breaks? Are they some kind of puzzle that we’re supposed to “figure out”?Well, not exactly. “They are all things that look natural, but have more to them; they’ve been altered,” says Orci. For now, he advises only that you note the order in which they appear on the series. For the record, so far we’ve only seen the leaf, which was floating around inside the Massive Dynamic handprint scanner in the final scene. Peter (Joshua Jackson)

Jack leaned back in the rubber boat and sighed with relief, “It’s OK…It’s OK…we’re alive.” Kate and Sun, despite being alive themselves, had brilliant expressions that read something like, “Speak for yourself, dumbass!” Can’t wait for those two grieving widows to discover their lovers (and friends) are alive (uh, right?!) and need a ride back home from purgatory.
