FlashForward – Episode 1.10 – A561984 – Sneak Peek

I don’t know about you but I’m really not liking these mid-season finale (“Flashforward … airs its mid-season finale on Dec. 3″) stoppages of shows that I’m invested in. I had fairly high hopes for FlashForward and I thought especially in the last couple of episodes, that it was making real strides, the plot was moving more quickly yet we were delving more deeply into some of the central character’s flashforwards and what the ramifications of the FF’s could be. Now this–a stoppage of production altogether. Furthermore, I don’t get why television writers all of a sudden ‘need more time’ to script a decent show. This was especially galling after a tepid season 4 of LOST produced the 16-episode, split-in-2 season 5.

Ultimately, I think the seismic shift in viewer’s watching habits–mainly getting away from watching shows as they air in favour of DVR, Hulu, or watching downloads or streaming on the network websites has so spooked the network suits that they are doing the proverbial throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Network execs make easy targets but when they declare that boneheaded moves like these are thought-out plans (“we meant to do that”) they make it very easy to fling poo in their general direction.

FlashForward is taking a step back.

Sources confirm…that ABC has temporarily shut down production on the rookie drama. The move comes a month after the departure of co-showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, and less than a week after FlashForward hit a new ratings low.

An ABC spokesperson confirms the shutdown, but is quick to note that the show’s schedule was designed to accommodate such breaks. “They started production early so that they could have the luxury to do this,” says the rep. “They want to maintain the high quality of the show, and this gives the writers the opportunity to do so.”

FlashForward’s lull won’t be nearly as long as the month-long creative hiatus ABC imposed over at V. The ABC rep says FF — which airs its mid-season finale on Dec. 3 — will resume production on Monday after just a six-day break.

Synopsis

Mark and Demetri travel to Hong Kong in an effort to find the woman who may know details of Demetri’s fate; Lloyd attempts to come clean about his and Simon’s involvement in the blackout; Zoey learns the meaning of her flash-forward.
While Mark and Demetri travel to Hong Kong to find Demetri’s mysterious prophetess, Zoey realizes what her vision really means and Lloyd prepares to go public with the group’s involvement in the the Blackout.
