Aww. I’m completely bummed.

This was my favourite LOST actor, certainly among the top actors on LOST and they are killing this character. I have to be honest. I’ve not had respect for the showrunners for a very long time and this is just one more case of blowing it when it came to not allowing a character to reach his/her potential. All the scene time they gave to Mr. Shouldn’t-be-Shirtless this season when they could have written more for the character they are about to off?
This is why I never listen to the official LOST podcasts. I cannot stand to listen to the smug dopes that are making it as they go along–there’s no over-arching anything. It’s just as the network ordered: “Survivor” in scripted drama form. It’s partly staged and scripted and partly random. Throw it together and see what comes out. In this case what comes out is craptastic.
Yeah, they were “done” with this character–because they are not creative enough to write more for him.

I’m assuming that we are supposed to believe that this is the only major death when in fact it is most likely one of two major deaths that will occur by the end of Season Five.

Daniel Faraday is the son of Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking. Dr. Dan arrives back to the Island by submarine. He tries to get Pierre Chang/ Marvin Candle to evacuate the island by telling him the truth about the Island and Miles. He ventures into the Others camp to talk to his mother who shoots and kills him prior to talking to him.

Eloise Hawking is not portrayed as a villain because she doesn’t know at the time she kills Daniel Faraday that he’s her son. She learns of his plans through Jack and Kate, and tries to see them through with the help of Richard Alpert.
