Here’s a headline plucked from today Business news section of my local paper:

“Sales at the nation’s largest retailers fell off a cliff in October, casting fresh doubt on the survival of some chains and signaling that this will probably be the weakest Christmas shopping season in decades.”
That sounds pretty scary doesn’t it? Did you know that Kmart was one of the few large retailers who DID NOT have a drop in earnings in October? It’s true! and it says to me that they are doing something right.
It has been a very long time since I put anything on layaway but in my opinion it is a very viable way of shopping. You can find an item that you need, that perhaps you’ve been waiting for to go on sale but your budget will not allow for it until the next week or week after. Do you put it on credit? I think most of us realize that now it is a very bad time to consider doing that.

Upright Freezer

Upright Freezer

What if it’s an item similar to what I’ve chosen today–a space saving upright freezer? Purchasing a small freezer which can hold about 46 pounds of food is a smart way of tightening up the household budget by allowing more space to store foods bought in bulk. You can save quite a bit of money over time by buying in bulk so a stand alone freezer is a smart useful choice to put on Kmart Lay-Away–an “easy pay” option.

Jeff Probst Blog Episode 8

Survivor: Gabon

Episode 8, “Apple in the Garden of Eden”

The two tribes come together for a feast. They are offered a tempting decision and make a surprising sacrifice that many soon regret; and Randy lets his newfound power go to his head.

As usual, the promos overplayed the “never before happened” aspect of this game.

The tribes thought they were to merge; they were brought together to feast with the caveat that a container on the table in front of them could only be opened when they were finished eating (they could not feast after opening it). And they were not merging yet.

Turns out that the container had a clue to find a really easily found immunity idol just feet from them.

For whatever brilliant strategic reason Marcus and then Randy wanted to just throw the idol into the ocean and then two teams voted to do so.

Wha?!? Prior seasons of Survivor have featured idiot moves with the Immunity Idol–this is just a variation on idiocy.

End result? Marcus’ “Kota 3″ team–a mix of half of the two teams blew it at the challenge and he himself was voted off the Island (continent?). He can be found currently in videos starring him at the Ponderosa–ruminating about if a brilliant doctor such as he was not in an impossible position in that how could he not be a leader in the tribe because of his status in life, extended education, blah, blah, blah. Stereotypical doctor–all wrapped up in his own ego.

The cool part was that it came down to the swing vote of delusional Susie (”I want to make it to the final three”) and Crystal convinced her to swing with the old Fang tribe by using the information that Marcus spilled to Crystal (in the short time they were “bonding”) about Randy and Corrinne “hating” her. So double dumb, Marcus!

Episode 9 Title:  Survivor: Gabon
The Brains Behind Everything

Marcus, the first jury member for Survivor: Gabon, reflects on his time in the game, and the “many true friendships he made that will last a lifetime.”
