Until recently, I had not considered that having a usa address quite literally means that things I purchase on the Internet or in fact anything I purchase and have shipped in the United States–costs me less than it does folks in other countries–even Canada.
But there have been a couple of instances of late where people in countries outside the Untied States asked me to forward their purchases to them.
One was my cousin who had found a rare book online but the bookseller refused to ship internationally–even for an additional fee! She asked if I would order it and mail it to her and she’d reimburse me. I still find it hard to fathom that Toronto is considered “foreign.”
Another case concerns an Internet friend of about one year who is British with an American spouse and they live in the United Kingdom. Her desire for both her husband and her growing family was to put together a traditional American Thanksgiving for them. Unfortunately none of the sources of Thanksgiving goods that she found will ship to her in the UK! So again it was requested that I lend a hand–and I’m happy to do so.
Even if you don’t have a contact person in the United States to forward items to you in your foreign country there is a service you can use and still get the items you couldn’t get otherwise. Click the link above to find out more!
