Above is my favourite Post Secret this week. It’s kind of difficult for me to believe that the person who wrote it honestly asked a Black person if he wanted to be called “colored.” I mean c’mon, that term hasn’t been acceptable for at least 35 years and I sincerely doubt that the postcard author is even over 35 years in age.
It was really hard to pick out a favourite Post Secret this week–there were some that were in no way worthy and others, just redundant.
“Frank,” the creator of Post Secret, made a large pitch for his new MySpace site as well and it’s my guess that the current Post Secret after four years of existence, is going to shut down soon. Frank believes he is starting a new jouney on MySpace and I’m truly sorry Frank old boy, but that is laughable at best, pitiable if one is not being charitable about it. Not that it won’t be a resounding success–but when I think of “resounding success” on MySpace I think of Tila Tequila.
It’s too bad because most grown-ups I know do not like MySpace. It’s too juvenile, but perhaps that is an audience that Frank is trying to target. Certainly the social networking aspect is one to be considered as well.
For my part as a reader, I much prefer the less interactive Post Secret. I didn’t even like the addition of comments/responses after some of the Secrets because inevitably it was a “me too, you’ll get through this”-type remark.
I liked the Post Secret to stand alone–much like a song or a piece of art–no comment necessary–just interpret it as you will.
I’ll keep posting my favourite Post Secrets even if I have to go to MySpace and read them there but I won’t be happy about it.
Sorry Frank, MySpace is already like one giant Post Secret. You dilute the quality of the secrets by featuring them there but maybe you are already running out of enough really good ones?
