My Favorite Post Secret This Week

Posted by: Maple    in Post Secret

I like this post secret–one in which a woman admits hairiness is a family trait, that the fear of being “discovered” as being a woman with hair where it “shouldn’t” is a uniform fear for her her aunts and her mother, and best of all that they’ve made a pact to keep this family secret “secret” if one of them ever “falls into a coma.”

I can relate having had a beautiful, full head of hair along with lots of hair elsewhere –except my arms. I was spared that. Unfortunately for me, I have no female relatives to share this issue with as no one on my mother’s side had the problem—nor other that my mother, are any of them alive. I cannot discern anyone on my father’s side having the issue either other than my now-deceased grandmother who in photographs seems not to mind how hirsute she is.

I told my spouse of my fear but everyone knows how unreliable men are.

I hope, by the time I’m old enough to not have my senses, that there will be a magic “cure.”

Boating season is already in full swing and though I’m not yet at our lake in Ontario, Canada I know that when I do arrive and get settled in much of my time spent there will be utterly tranquil–which is why I love it.

Often however the tranquility is shattered by persons in the act of Boating Operating Under the Influence. Drunk people at the wheel of some very, very fast motorboats scare the dickens out of me. I have nothing against drinking or boating per se. But when mixed together they are every bit as much of a lethal combination as driving and operating a car whilst impaired by alcohol. It’s unsurprising to me that one-third of all fatal boating accidents across the United States are alcohol related and that just is not acceptable.

What also just blows my mind is that unlike driving a motorized vehicle on land, in many places operating one on the water requires no safety training whatsoever even though operating a boat under the influence is a Class A misdemeanor!

Type Terminator in the search box in the left column to read recent and earlier posts on
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and it’s excellent cast.

Summer Glau won her second Saturn Award Tuesday night at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror’s 34th annual Saturn Awards, held at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Universal City.

Summer, in just a half-season’s work on Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, impressed the Academy enough that they awarded her Best Supporting Actress on television, for which she tied with “Lost’s” Elizabeth Mitchell (also a high -octane talent, underused in her current role).

Some of Terminator’s cast as well as it’s showrunner had a number of juicy tidbits (mildly spoilerish) to share about the new season, which they’re currently shooting. I cherry-picked through for what I thought were interesting quotes. I really like the show and I think I like where their taking it especially with adding Dillahunt full-time. Great choice, fine actor. Can’t wait! (but sadly, must–like all mere mortals who cannot yet bend time <wink>)

Garret Dillahunt ‘ Cromartie” T:TSCC
Cromartie is back–full time!

The gifted and hunky actor, Garret Dillahunt is back FULL TIME as model T-888 terminator Cromartie!

Says Garret: “Cromartie’s back big-time. They made me a series regular.” Garret feels his character is not evil–just misunderstood. He said, “I like him. They’re really not bad guys—they’re doing their job. He has no hate in him. He’s like: ‘Look, it’s my job, sorry…Gotta snap your neck.’ ”

Summer Glau wins 2nd Saturn Award-06.24.08

Here’s what Summer has to say about her character Cameron a female “good” Terminator, who when last we saw her appeared to go all splodey when, on her way to buy John a birthday cake, she turned the keys to Sarah’s car and a car bomb went off. According to Summer Glau, in this first full season of T:TSCC, “Cameron definitely has some issues after the explosion,” she said. “And everybody changes after the first episode.”

When asked about Cameron’s ability to access human emotion like jealousy, Terminator showrunner/creator Josh Friedman responded with, “I think if there were somebody else in John’s life that could cause strategic problems, I think that’s almost like jealousy, and she would work to eliminate that threat. I think we may see some of that this year.”

And what’s this “Garbage” About Shirley Manson?

Below: The new character, “Catherine Weaver,” played by Shirley Manson of band Garbage, in screen shot of a reflection in a huge fish tank (I know!). This is the best I can do for now though the character description describes a female, high-powered CEO of a high-tech something or other (robotics?) corporation. What is Shirley Manson wearing on her feet? And what’s going on with her pant legs in the cuff area? Are we not supposed to notice her bottom half?

Before~

Turns out that Josh Friedman’s wife is a long-time friend of the band Garbage’s lead singer and Friedman wanted to use her in the show. In Season 2 a part opened up and Shirley auditioned successfully. (Friedman explained that “it’s a pretty big part” so an audition was necessary.)

Some Terminator news from Kristin

Producer’s Blog - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

OH, oh, oh. Another thing. The very same guy who composes the unique and pretty awesome music for Battlestar Galactica scores T:TSCC, too!

You must read composer Bear McCreary’s Blog for both Battlestar and Terminator!

He’s a total fan of the shows he writes music for and that just makes it all the better, IMO.

From Bear’s Blog in re: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles~

Great news! Warner Bros. and La La Land Records have come together to release my soundtrack album for “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Season One.” This will include all the best musical moments from the first season, featuring all the metal-smashing-percussion and electric-string-quartet you can handle! The album release date has not yet been announced, but expect it before the end of the year.

It totally adds to the viewing experience, especially the second time. I usually read it right after viewing the first time ‘cos it’s full o’ SPOILERS <grin>. I hope he has the same freedom to write about scoring T:TSCC; I loved reading his “Bear’s Battlestar blog” during the just-ended first half of it’s last season (S4) of Battlestar Galactica.

Michelle Obama, Viewed

Posted by: Maple    in Fashion, Television, photography

Michelle Obama subjected herself to The View this week. Apparently the show is painful to watch. Has Michelle been on Ellen DeGeneres’ (sp) show yet? I’d imagine that would be slightly less horrible for her in that she wouldn’t’ have to talk about pantyhose. (Have you ever seen Ellen in anything but pants?)

That picture of Michelle in the red with Barack in Ebony is very flattering. They made her swap her ever-present pearls to beads styled in a similar fashion to the great bunches and strands of pearls that Michelle wears. I suppose it would be too elitist for her to hire a stylist? (That’s a joke.) I’m sure Michelle can get a free fashion consult as a “friend of Oprah,” if she hasn’t already. lol

Double D’s Swimsuits

   Posted by: Maple    in Fashion

I’ve noticed, when looking at where my search traffic comes from and what they are searching for that a post I did a bit ago for “Double D” swimsuits often appears in the search results. It’s rather heartening because it’s good to know that there are lots of “sisters” out there who are of voluptuous proportions.

Getting down to the serious business of finding the right swimsuit that flatters, fits, and is fashionable for a Double D size can be quite a challenge. Luckily for me I stumbled upon a brand that suits me (no pun intended) is really cute, and it fits!!!

A swimsuit is unique as I’m sure you realize, due to the component of swimming. The swimsuits I chose need to hold up to swimming and more, be comfortable, and continuously provide coverage in the places that I need them to. Too tall an order?

I don’t think so.

I’ve used Just My Size online or JMS.com as I believe they are now known, in securing undergarments but until this season I’d not bought any swimwear from them. I had been using Speedo but sadly, the quality of Speedo seems to be on the decline, with fading especially being a real problem with the mid-range price “active-type” swimsuits that I bought. Also, Speedo hasn’t really caught up with the notion that bigger-busted women like to swim as much as anyone else and so they have not provided the swimsuit support that a girl needs.

Anyway, I just bought the first bathing suit that I’ve been thrilled with in very a long time–this one:

jms.com dd swimsuit

It’s fits me true to size on top. I am fully a Double D and in getting a size 22 I was able to get the upper support I need.

Previously, I’d bought a size 18 in Speedo and in most (non- Speedo) cases I’d probably get a size 20 but the fit in the bust is critical and this suit fits about as perfectly as if it were custom-made. It’s made in the USA and it’s seems very sturdy–and it’s looks really nice on! I am more “apple shaped” so the “tummy trimmers” aspect of this suit is perfect for me as well.

The link above will take you to the JMS swimsuit landing page. Good luck!

(This is unsolicited/unpaid, in others words-just my opinion about my new swimsuit.)

George Carlin mugshot

George Carlin first came to my attention when he got himself arrested for uttering the “The Seven Dirty Words You Can Never Say On Television” in the mid 1970’s, when he performed in Milwaukee WI. Until one of my friends bought his comedy album (which some stores refused to carry) with the routine on it I didn’t know what the content of the Seven Dirty Words was, only that they had to be the worst swear words, ever. There was no cable television then–no Internet to pull up a video or even audio of the routine so after about a year spent discussing and guessing on and off what those words entailed I finally heard them. I’d guessed a few of them but George taught me a few more. :D

The George Carlin of this century was very different than prior to his wife’s death in 1997. She was with him from the early days and his humour took a harder, more bitter turn in the years that followed her death

For a time, it was hard to watch him because though he’s been a curmudgeon for forever the extra, extra, bitter George sometimes seemed more angry than funny. When examining his career of 50 years however this was but a small portion of it.

A very intelligent man and keen observer of just about everything it seemed, George Carlin was one of the funniest, most gifted comedians of my lifetime. Because I enjoy “language” with all it’s oddities and because George liked to take apart the words we use every day and examine them more closely he always had something to offer that tickled my funny bone.

I was unaware that he was fighting addictions as recently as 2004 and also that he’d had several heart attacks. Knowing this I suppose at age 71 he did not die “too early.”

In any case, his body of work will continue to speak for him.

Comedian George Carlin Dies

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — George Carlin, the influential comedian whose routines used profanity, scatology and absurdity to point out the silliness and hypocrisy of human life, has died. He was 71. Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, died of heart failure died Sunday at at 5:55 p.m. PT. Carlin was “a hugely influential force in stand-up comedy. He had an amazing mind, and his humor was brave, and always challenging us to look at ourselves and question our belief systems, while being incredibly entertaining. He was one of the greats,” actor and comedian Ben Stiller said in a statement. Carlin was often quoted, his best lines traded like baseball cards. “Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” began one famous routine. Another pointed out the differences between the pastoral game of baseball and the militaristic game of football: “Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park! Football is played on a gridiron, in a stadium, sometimes called Soldier Field or War Memorial Stadium.” Then there were the non sequiturs: “The bigger they are, the worse they smell,” he observed. He filled three best-selling books, more than 20 record albums and countless television appearances with his material. He appreciated the impact his words made on fans. “These are nice additional merit badges that you earn if you’ve left a mark on a person or on some people,” he told CNN.com in 2004. “I’d say it’s flattering, but flattery implies insincerity, so I call it a compliment.” Carlin was probably best known for a routine that began, “I was thinking about the curse words and the swear words, the cuss words and the words that you can’t say.” It was a monologue, known as “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,” that got Carlin arrested and eventually led to the U.S. Supreme Court. The “Seven Dirty Words” bit prompted a landmark indecency case afte…

“Here’s a short selection of George Carlin’s best YouTube flicks. If you’re a fan, I know you’ll enjoy them; if you’re one of the uninitiated, well, better late than never.

5. Voting

- why do we always feel like there’s a lack of real choice on the ballot? George explains the habits of an average voter, where politicians come from and why the country is screwed.

4. Ten Commandments - You know those stupid top 10 lists, that always seem like they were inflated up to a round number (any similarity to any persons or blogs living or dead is a coincidence)? Well, it goes all the way back to Moses.

3. Airline Announcements - Ever wondered why all announcements on an airplane sound like they’re spoken in some weird language from a parallel universe?

2. Saving The Planet - Saving endangered species is just one more arrogant attempt by humans to control nature. It’s what got us in trouble in the first place.

1. Religion Is Bullshit - If he was wrong about this one, it might get George into a lot of trouble right about now.”

My Favorite Post Secret This Week

Posted by: Maple    in Post Secret, graphic

I apologize. Truth is, this is a favourite but not from this week. I didn’t have any favourites this week though there were some good ones. I have this–another Post Secret favourite of mine.

I like that it’s message simple, yet profound. I think unless we walk around with rose-coloured glasses 24/7 we can relate to the sentiment on some level.

Official Fan Site of The Sarah Connor Chronicles
A quiz for all things Terminator

Much more on this website on Terminator: TSCC

That is one of the hardest quizzes I’ve ever taken for a television show. I did OK but I think maybe skipping one Terminator movie did me in! Great questions though. Some really hard even if you’ve seen some of the Terminator movies more than once .<raises hand>

Cameron 2008-9 Terminator:SCC

The news about this coming fall’s Season Two of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles continues to sound good. Two new actors have joined the Terminator: SCC cast.

“The Fox hit “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” will be returning for it’s second season this fall after launching mid-season as the highest rated new scripted series of the entire season.”

It’s a certainty that the show is actively being worked on, ramping up for production (maybe they have started already? If I see a date I’ll try to remember to note it).Shirley Manson “Catherine Weaver”

Two new actors join the Terminator: SCC cast (above and below). Sorry, I missed the casting news from May until today which won’t happen again as from here on in I’ll stay on it–through the fall and beyond. I am falling hard for Terminator: SCC after only a promising half-season.

The end-of-May “recurring role” casting is pretty intriguing-sounding:

Source: http://www.nme.com/news/garbage/36960
“Shirley Manson is set to pursue a full-time acting career, having landed a regular role on a US TV series.

The Garbage lead singer will appear in a recurring role on ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ which airs on Fox.

Manson will play , the “CEO of Cyberdyne, a cutting edge hi-tech company” in the show, which is an offshoot of the successful Terminator movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

The Hollywood Reporter says that the show was the highest-rated new scripted series of the 2007-2008 season.

Also, today-

“Terminator: SCC” is again adding to the cast in the form of Leven Rambin who joins the show as a series regular playing “Riley,” a new school friend of John Connor’s in Season 2. Leven Rambin

Saw the first adverts for the 2008-09 first full season of Terminator: SCC~ here’s a thumbnail of one. Go to the Official Fan Site to see more.Sarah Connor Chronicles Lena Heady

Finally, those of you jonesing for something similar atmospherically on television to Battlestar Galactica should know that the very same composer for BSG– see Bear McCready’s Terminator blog– does the scoring for Terminator, too! In watching to premiere episode I was nagged that “something” was familiar; by the the second episode I’d nailed it and the credits bore out that my light bulb moment was correct.

QotD: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow…

Posted by: Maple    in The Love You Make, me, photography

Every new “Today” seems more anxious than ever. Do you find more solace in “Yesterday” or “Tomorrow”? Why?

Solace: comfort in sorrow, misfortune, or trouble; alleviation of distress or discomfort.

Find solace in yesterday? No. Tomorrow? Tomorrow is probably what I need solace from, lol.

Today is as anxious as I allow it to be. It’s an old-fashioned notion but it happens to work. There will always be the good times and bad times. Most of the time life is on an even keel. Maybe some people think these are “bad times” and certainly for people in crisis it is. But I’m not in crisis–today anyway–so I have no need to find solace.

It’s not that I never worry. I do, absolutely. And I may seek solace in distracting myself for awhile. Ultimately however the only solace (for me) is to address the problem head on. If I know I’m doing something–even if it’s just keeping my head together and moving forward with my life then I feel OK. It’s when times are difficult and I get stuck that I have a real problem. I won’t stay stuck. I can’t. So I work on getting unstuck.

Twins For Angelina and Brad

Posted by: Maple    in Fashion, photo, photography

It seems we’ve seen the last of Angelina Jolie pregnant in 2008. I don’t blame her for setting in with the kids for the summer while she awaits the birth of two more children.

It’s funny ‘cos in her younger incarnation Angelina Jolie was such a sex symbol to both men and women and wouldn’t you know it– she’s still crazy-sexy while she’s heavy with children. Which is great because I documented Angelina throughout her pregnancy including when she was (not-so-convincingly) hiding it. I think I have the last couple of snaps that I believe are from Cannes in May and she looked stupendous.

I will put them up in thumbnail form.

This is strictly a fanwank to Angelina and to the great stylist that has guided her in choosing some smashingly glam prego evening wear and really smart-looking day wear. Both she and her partner, Brad Pitt repeatedly stated that they wanted a large family but having them two at a time like this they ought to be done by the next one or so. ;)

Mouse over and click the icons to make them a bit bigger. What’s under there, Ang?

Trying to keep the kids under wraps~ wenn5084203.jpg angelina_jolie.jpg
