It’s been surreal watching CBS’s teevee show Survivor back-to-back with ABC’s LOST on Wednesday nights.
The two shows are sort of inverse but at the same time, parallel to one another.
Besides not having the 2 hours to burn every Thursday night, it became less enjoyable for me to view each show as it stood alone, as it was impossible not to compare them. And sadly, LOST doesn’t hold up well to Survivor 16.
LOST has fallen back into the land of filler and really, that’s one thing I can say about Survivor 16–no filler.
Anyway, as you know if you follow LOST, the character “Charlie Pace” played by Dominic Monaghan, was apparently killed off at the end of last season. In my mind, it was a mercy killing as he was unquestionably one of the most talented actors in the show yet JJ and Co. with the exception of a couple of Charlie-centric episodes over a three-year span, let the character die on the vine. Creator J.J. Abrams could have done so much more as could Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. But they are hacks. Truly. Abrams is great at throwing out eye candy and action but DO NOT look for deeper meaning because these guys are too shallow to have created deeper meanings.
Very much like the character of “Hurley” (Jorge Garcia), Charlie provided some comic relief but his was quite a different style than Hurley’s, so there is a gaping hole left where he was and no amount of plugged in characters from a barge or elsewhere will change that./end rant
I know that Dominic Monaghan, the actor who played Charlie, dated for a couple years, became engaged, and then broke up with Evangeline Lilly (Kate on LOST) but it doesn’t appear that that had much to do with Charlie’s demise.
Just the same reports, of Dominic out in LA in a club with his arms around a woman not Evie, crying…sounded a bit worrisome.
All the more reason to welcome something very positive in Dominic Monaghan’s life –a gallery showing.
For hard-core Monaghan fans there may be a market but in brutal honestly most of these photo shopped prints are nothing special other than that they were taken by him.
Let’s face it, he has access to famous people. Put a famous person in a photo and voila! You’ve got a photograph of interest. The gallery is full of blurry self-portraits. I know I sound jaded, hell, I am jaded. I did all that stuff earlier in my digital explorations and sometimes I cringe when I look back at that which I have not deleted. I think Dom will continue to evolve as he puts his energies into his photography much like the rest of us amateurs who take it seriously.
Strikingly, there are no photographs of Evangeline Lilly. It bodes ill for their current status, IMO. Though they are exes they could’ve been friendly and that doesn’t seem so given that he spent years with her during part of this photographic period and there isn’t a single shot of her. She is a model, after all and I feel quite confident that he has–or did have hundreds if not thousands of Evie photos in his possession.
Above is a promo for the exhibition as well as my favourite shot…
I have chronic rhinosinusitis (recurrent or long term sinus problems) so this information provided me with some interesting insights into possible treatments for mychronic rhinosinusitis including information about a product with positive results, Oasis Nasal Spray.
Oasis Nasal Spray And Wash allows you to rinse and wash the nose which may help relieve symptoms of reactions to allergens and fungus as well as providing an anti-inflammatory response with it’s Dead Sea Salt ingredients.
After sustaining an injury at a previous Reward Challenge, Jonathan Penner, the 46 year-old writer/producer from Los Angeles, was medically pulled from the game when the open wound above his knee became infected, risking his life. The Survivor Medical Team’s only course of action was to undergo immediate surgery on the infected area, and a tearful and heartbroken Jonathan became the sixth person to exit the game. Jonathan’s parting words: “Couldn’t have tried any better. Couldn’t have fought any harder. It was fun while it lasted.”

Team Airai–won both the Reward and Immunity Challenges: James and the girls, post Penner.
Tucked away in the trees beside the challenge course, a worried Airai tribe and Jeff Probst watch as a doctor from the Survivor Medical Team examines Jonathan’s wound. Inspecting the large area of infection, she tells him, “This is going to need intravenous antibiotics, probably needs surgical wash-out. It’s not going to be a quick fix.” Jonathan refuses to accept this diagnosis and exclaims, “I’m not quitting!” But the doctor lays out the very dire set of circumstances. “An infection that goes into your blood stream is potentially fatal,” she cautions. Jonathan chokes up, the severity of the situation finally hitting him. Jeff Probst asks for clarification, and the doctor spells it out very clearly for both Jonathan and the emotional Airai tribe. She warns, “I can only recommend for the sake of his leg and his life that he leave the game now.”
“The Malakal tribe returns from Tribal Council where the Favorites had orchestrated a vote to take out a major physical threat, the Fans’ Joel. Erik feels on the outs at Malakal as the only member not included in the plan to oust Joel. Sitting around the campfire, Erik blurts out, “I was shocked by that vote…” But the tribe ignores him as they get ready for bed. A shaken Erik finds himself alone by the fire, realizing he has to step up his game. “Those guys are tough as nails,” declares Erik. “You cannot trust the Favorites at all.”

I’m really sorry Erik, but you are both young and slow on the uptake. It’s called Survivorfor a reason, doofus. Trustno one if you ever get another chance to play. It’s OK to act as if you trust but only fools and losers give their trust up completely on Survivor.
I skipped about 5 Survivor shows total over the show’s eight-year history, otherwise I have seen them all and Jonathan leaving–and from what I see around the net, Jonathan Penner’s leaving really tugged at people’s heart strings.
Yes it was sad though certainly “Penner” as Probst like to call him, got lots of show-bizzy contacts and writing gigs and such out of his privilege of actually being on the show about the length of an entire season of Survivor.
But for me, when a guy like Penner cries in those circumstances–it’s hard not to feel badly for him-and then the females of his tribe started to cry as well–for him, for themselves.
Very sad.
Next week, Episode 7–on Wednesday:
Tracy of Malakal tribe IMO, is a force to be reckoned and if her tribe goes to Tribal Council next week (Episode 7) she should go.
It still appears that Kathy on Airai Tribe is going to have a meltdown of some kind and need to go home.
