I’m a Flake!

Posted by: Caprica    in health, me, weather

Overnight it seems my entire face has decided to shed and it’s awful. Well, not horrible awful but definitely awful-looking. Actually, I could look at this as a good thing in that it is a signal that Spring is on the way. I’m not sure “how” my face knows this but with the major season changes in these parts from Winter to Spring and Fall to Winter I go through this. And it hasn’t, except for one day last week, even been remotely Spring-like. I go out walking every day and today it’ll be in the low 30’s F and I’ll bundle like I always do but come home to this goofy situation which will continue for about a month before normal returns.
Nice, huh?flakes manganese

Shirley Manson of Garbage will play the CEO of the makers of the you-know-what!

…just concluded it’s first 8 episodes. I say that optimistically because I do not know if there are to be any more episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. (I have the Producer’s blog link below. I’m sure he’ll be shouting from the rooftops if it’s coming back just as soon as /if he knows).

Much more on this website on Terminator: TSCC

Fallout from the Writer’s Guild strike wreaked havoc with television programming and fairly early on, the FOX network decided that it would be “a wrap” for Terminator: TSCC for what would have been the rest of the season. I’m going to miss this show. For one thing it really helped getting through a couple months of no Battlestar Galactica. But even if BSG did not exist, I’d still like this show.

It’s got a fairly simple premise and I’m going on the assumption that you are familiar with at least the first couple of Terminator films–the ones with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Thumbnail Plot Recap: Set after the events in ‘Terminator 2′ Sarah Connor and her son John, trying to stay under-the-radar from the government as they plot to destroy the computer network Skynet in hopes of preventing Armageddon.
Sarah Connor/Lena Headey

Lena Headey as Sarah Connor

It’s been unofficially explained that this teevee series could be set somewhere after T-3 but before T-4 in a sort of parallel universe. It is not considered canon as it relates to the Terminator films.

Without recapping the first eight episodes I’ll throw out enough information for you to get a feel for the show on your own.

Producer’s Blog - Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

(Josh Friedman:
Creator/Executive Producer): I really like this guy’s blog. He’s honest, funny, invested in the show and I think he’s got some excellent instincts in terms of the writers he’s had working on the show.

This show gravitates between Science Fiction and Dark Comedy–much like the best of the Terminator films. Keeping in mind this is a teevee budget that they are working within that’s no mean feat.

Major props go to Summer Glau as John’s protector Terminator. Her acting has grown immensely since the “Firefly” series (I did love her in the Serenity film but have not seen her in anything else).
In terms of the “meat” of the show “Cameron” may be flesh over fancy metal but she deadpans like nobody’s business. With her physical presence, which is somewhat butterfly-like, she represents a walking/talking contradiction and Summer Glau pulls it off to great effect.

Lena Headey is good as Sarah Connor but I’m not in love with the character. Protective mama bear is sort of a one-note act. I think this actress is capable of much more–but someone needs to give her the material to work with. And she does not need to be shrill. Write her a bit more like Reese, a less high-pitched, calmer kind of intense love.

Thomas Dekker as John Connor, the “future of Earth’s survival,” is OK as a emo kinda teen but he’s not grabbing me either. I feel neutral towards him. His character also needs to be fleshed out.

BUT several secondary characters bring gravitas in the acting department>> Dean Winters

>>including…Dean Winters as Sarah Connor’s former fiancee/paramedic Charley Dixon,

Brian Austin Green

Brian Austin Green as Derek Reese, John Connor’s uncle.

Trivia: I’ve not ever seen Brian Austin Green in anything. He is unshaven in Terminator and it takes the edge of his youthful looks–in a really good way. And he’s nailing the part.

I went in search of what other stuff he’s done on televsion ‘cos I knew he’d done what? 90210 from 1990-2000? And he gets slammed for it–mostly by guys, it seems. <eyeroll>

Listen I’ve never “seen” him before let alone known courtesy of IMDb, that he’s has hooked up with both Vanessa Marcil and Megan Fox.

and last but not least…

GarretDillahunt.AgentKester

Garret Dillahunt as Agent Kester/Cromartie, a badass Terminator.

It does not hurt that they all have a very manly persona, if you catch my drift. <sigh>
